Ranch Happenings and SHR Residents

 JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2010

We're off to a good start with our kidding season with 19 babies on the ground and three more mamas to kid.

The Gold Country Meat Goat group attended the Meat Goat Breeder, Leader, Feeder Seminar held in Stockton in January.  Despite the "freezing" fog the kids learned much and had a good time with about 400 other goat enthusiasts.

Here we are at the Loomis Eggplant Festival in October 2009

Sweet Home Ranch received about three inches of snow in early December. Due to unusually low temperatures, the snow hung around for three days. We enjoyed it immensely in spite of going without electricity for 24 hours(our T-top woodstove was sure a blessing).

Savvy, our APHA, 5 year old mare under saddle at the walk/trot/canter.

Savvy is for sale, $2900.

Georgia, a.k.a "Fairest in the Land", our 5 year old,  APHA mare working out in the arena.  Her specialty: Western Pleasure

Our guard Llama, Bruister,  spies a possible threat to Maisey and her two kids.  Whether a  threat is  real or just imagined, a llama is ever watchful over his charges in the pasture.

Our newest addition to Sweet Home Ranch is "Annabelle" a black baldy heifer calf.  She was born Super Bowl Sunday and is being bottle-fed.

PICTURE TO COME!!!!!

"Jerusalem", our miniature donkey, is not used as a guard animal because he plays much too rough with the goats/sheep.  Instead, he hangs out with Georgia and Savvy, our young paint mares who are part of the Gold Country 4H horse project.

"Springer" our Cotswald/Shetland lamb

"Goose" our shetland sheep so-named for the fiesty bird who is said to have "cropped" her ear when she was just a lamb.  Goose has an amazingly beautiful, soft fleece.

"Pilgrim" our newest llama who is in charge of protecting our goat mamas and babies-he sure loves the kid goats.

"Indy" our Corgi as a youngster

Indy as a mature Corgi mimmicking her stuffed bear.
